How to Calculate SIP Returns in India
A Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) lets you invest a fixed amount regularly, often every month. A SIP calculator estimates how contributions could grow under an assumed rate of return. Market-linked returns are not guaranteed, so treat every result as an illustration rather than a promise.

Example: investing ₹5,000 per month
| Input | Example |
|---|---|
| Monthly contribution | ₹5,000 |
| Investment period | 10 years (120 months) |
| Total contributions | ₹6,00,000 |
| Assumed annual return | 12% (illustrative only) |
The final estimate depends on the calculator's compounding convention, when each contribution is invested, fees and actual market performance. Real mutual fund returns fluctuate and can be negative.
How to use a SIP calculator
- Enter the amount you plan to invest every month.
- Choose an assumed annual return for illustration—not as a guaranteed rate.
- Enter the number of years you expect to invest.
- Compare the estimated value with your total contributions.
- Try a lower return assumption to understand how sensitive the result is.
What affects SIP growth?
- Contribution amount: Investing more each month usually increases the projected amount.
- Time horizon: More time can allow compounding to work, but does not eliminate market risk.
- Return assumption: A small change in the assumed rate can materially change a long-term estimate.
- Consistency: Regular contributions can support a plan, but cannot guarantee profit.
