How does a Home Loan EMI work?
Home loan EMI depends mainly on the amount borrowed, annual interest rate and repayment tenure. A longer tenure can reduce the monthly EMI but may increase total interest over the full loan period.
What should you compare?
- Interest rate and whether it is fixed or floating.
- Processing charges, insurance and other applicable fees.
- Prepayment or foreclosure conditions.
- Your total repayment, not only the monthly EMI.
Example
If a property costs ₹50 lakh and you make a ₹10 lakh down payment, the estimated loan amount is ₹40 lakh. Enter the applicable rate and tenure above to compare the EMI and total interest.
This estimate excludes stamp duty, registration, taxes, insurance and lender-specific charges.
